Upon arrival, you’ll will be greeted by our Head Brewer. You’ll receive complimentary refreshments and will be given a quick health and safety briefing, introduction to the team and quick overview of the Wetherby Brew Co.

Next comes the exciting bit…deciding what to brew! You’ll be introduced to the available ingredients and supplied with a variety of recipe cards for inspiration. You’ll also be tasked with choosing a name for your ale (make it a good one as your beer will ultimately be sold on our bar!).

It’s then time to roll up your sleeves and start brewing. You’ll be selecting and weighing out malted barley and wheat and getting your hands on our 250 litre Braumeister brewing kit (don’t worry, you’ll be guided every step of the way by our Head Brewer).

Once the ‘mash’ is underway, it’s back to school. You’ll receive a brief history lesson on brewing from centuries ago to the present day, you’ll learn about the physics and chemistry of brewing and receive an explanation of what will happen to your beer after your experience ends.

Next up it’s time to get ‘hands on’ again. You will be shown the process of casking and bottling, and get to try your hand at filling, capping and labelling (hint: it’s not as easy as it looks!).

You’ll then be introduced to our beer cellar (don’t worry it’s actually on the ground floor) where you will be shown how casks are stored, conditioned and set up for service.

Now that you’ve learned how to brew and store a great beer, it’s time to learn how to serve one! You’ll spend time behind our bar and will be shown how to pull the perfect pint. You’ll also get the opportunity to enjoy your two complimentary pints.

Next up, it’s design time! You’ll get to sit down with our designer, and using professional software, you’ll be designing a pump clip or bottle label of your very own. Whether you want something ‘traditional’, ‘contemporary’ or ‘wild and whacky’, the design is up to you (our designer will of course be on hand to help you and give you ideas).

The final stage of the brewing experience will see you ‘digging out’ the mash tun and starting ‘the boil’. You’ll be infusing the hops you selected earlier with the beer wort to give your beer its final flavour and aroma.

At the end of your experience, you’ll be presented with a gift carry pack containing a branded glass, beer mats, and two bottles of Wetherby Brew Co Beer of your choosing. You’ll also be presented with your personalised framed brewing certificate.

Once you’ve completed your experience, there’s no need to rush off. We encourage your family and friends to join you at our Tap Room ‘The Beer Station’ where you can relax and reflect on your brewing achievements! We serve a variety of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks and children are permitted up until 8.00pm.

Finally, before departing  you can purchase a selection of Wetherby Brew Co beers (and other fine guest ales) from our well stocked bottle shop, and will receive a 10% discount on all purchases on the day!

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

No prior brewing experience is necessary, and we’ll guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re a complete novice or a keen home brewer, we’ll tailor your time with us accordingly. If you have a specific brewing interest or objective, please let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate your requirements.

The experience takes place at our premises in Wetherby, home to our microbrewery, tap room and bottle shop. You’ll find us just 5 minutes from J45 or J46 of the A1, and a short walk from the town centre. Wetherby itself is half way between London and Edinburgh, close to the Yorkshire Dales, and easily accessible from York, Leeds, and Harrogate. Please visit our find us page for a map and directions. There is ample on-site parking.

The Wetherby brewing experience is held on most Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year (subject to availability and other events taking place).

Brewing great beer takes time and cannot be rushed! The brewing experience typically lasts 4-5 hours, starting at 9.30am and ending around 1.30 – 2.30pm.  If you are booking for a full group (and have a subsequent engagement) it may be possible to amend times slightly. Please contact us to discuss any specific requirements.

We generally recommend bookings for groups of six. If you are looking to book individual places you may be asked to share the experience with up to 5 other beer enthusiasts. Larger groups may be accommodated by prior arrangement (please contact us to discuss your requirements).

The experience is priced at £95.00 (inc. VAT) per person and includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments and two pints of cask ale. There are no other additional costs on the day, however many of our guests choose to purchase additional beers from our well stocked bottle shop. We accept cash and all major debit/credit cards.

Simply click on the button below and follow the instructions on screen. Alternatively, you may make bookings in person at the brewery, where one of our team will be happy to help you.

We’ll e-mail you (or your gift recipient) a printer friendly ‘welcome pack’ including; voucher, joining instructions, map and directions, agenda for the day, and a reminder of what to wear.

The experience is very ‘hands on’ and aimed at smaller groups. Given its intimate nature (and the limited amount of space available) we’re unable to accommodate spectators. Don’t worry though… there are plenty of local attractions for your partner, friends or family to explore whilst you brew, including Stockeld Park (ideal for the kids). Wetherby also has a good selection of independent cafes and shops and some scenic riverside walks.

We welcome enquiries for corporate events and would be happy to discuss preparing a bespoke package to meet your specific needs. We’re also happy to recommend local businesses, including hotels, eateries, transport companies, venues and attractions.

The Wetherby Brew Experience is an ideal way to kick off a weekend of celebration. We’re happy to accommodate enquiries for all types of occasions, including; anniversaries, birthday parties, christenings and stag and hen parties. Please contact us to discuss any specific requirements.

In most instances, your beer will be both bottled and casked and will be on sale at our Tap Room 2-3 weeks after your experience. Your beer will also be available to enjoy from the cask at our bar (the perfect opportunity to bring along friends and family along to sample your brewing prowess!). If you’d like to reserve some bottles for purchase, we’d be happy to set some aside for you, and providing we’re not too busy, we will also give you the opportunity to get back behind the bar and pull a pint for yourself. If you’re unable to return to the brewery for any reason, you can pre-order your bottled beers and we will send these to an address of your choosing (postage will be charged at cost).

Everything you need on the day is included within the package. We’d recommend that you bring a change of clothing (particularly if you have a more formal engagement afterwards).

The brewing process involves dealing with raw ingredients including water, malt, hops and yeast. As such, there is a possibility your clothing may get wet and/or dusty. We suggest casual comfortable clothing suitable for a working environment. We recommend wearing closed shoes and avoiding baggy items and jewellery. The brewing area can be quite cold at times, so please be prepared to ‘wrap up’ (especially in the winter months). Whilst we don’t offer dedicated changing facilities, our accessible WC can be used for changing when required.

The brewing experience is based on the ground floor of our premises. Our venue is wheelchair friendly and features an accessible toilet. Should you have any specific needs, we will do our very best to cater for them. Please see our accessibility page for more information.
